Big Binondo Food Wok
It was both a cultural and culinary experience. The tour which lasted for 3.5 hours showed us the tourist attractions in the area like the Binondo Church (or the Minor Basilica of St. Lorenzo Ruiz), the authentic Chinese food of Chinatown and the cheapest shopping center, Divisoria.
Our tour guide, Ivan Dy, entertained us with interesting details on Old Manila’s history. A Chinese-Filipino, he described the link between the Philippines, the People's Republic of China, and our neighboring countries.
Our first food stop was at cafe selling kiam perng or braised rice with peanuts served with squid balls in soup. We enjoyed the unique taste of this Chinatown specialty.
Our next stopover was at a store selling the Chinese delicacy hopia in different flavors like ube, mongo, baboy and pineapple..
The tour ended with a healthy choice of fresh lumpia (spring rolls), prepared the original Fujian way.
